What is not to admire and adore about Barbados? There is so much to this enchanting island that is extremely tough to narrow down in mere 10 things. Barbados is globally recognized for being the birthplace of pop sensation Rihanna and Rum, as well as the most favorite winter escape choice of most celebs including Wayne, Collen Rooney and Simon Cowell. But trust me – there is a lot more to this captivating island.

White sand beaches and turquoise waters are just one aspect. This Caribbean Island has so much more to stimulate visitors, with caves, historic landmarks and forests.

Yes, this island’s white sand beaches have been luring sun-seekers for decades; however, with the addition of Bridgetown and its Garrison to the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites List in June has attested that this Caribbean Island has an Oomph factor that can make visitors go gaga about this place; it is certainly much more than a sunny place in which tourists stretch out on a chair.

So, whether you are planning to have some leisure time on a white-sand beach, explore cultural attractions or just have a gala time at nightclubs, holiday in Barbados can offer you all.

Barbados is a great holiday destination!

Without much Ado, here are the 10 things that make Barbados a Perfect Holiday Spot…..

The Beaches

Barbados’ beaches are precisely how you envision paradise to be. Now, being an island, it is surrounded by beaches as far as you can see through your eyes; but frankly, the West Coast beaches are peaceful and serene (and here you will find expensive resorts and celeb resorts).  Contrarily, South Coast beaches are touristy and lively and beaches on the East Coast are unspoilt, rugged and with their rough waters, ideal for surfing.

West Coast Beaches

Oistins

When on a holiday in Barbados, Oistins is a must visit place. It is a fishing town that amazingly transforms into being “the place to be” on every Friday night. Hundreds of tourists and locals flock to this town to savor “Fish Fry” every weekend to sample the local food.

There you will find all variety of fish…some will be totally new to your taste buds like flying fish (the national dish), mahi-mahi, kingfish, swordfish and marlin, as well as sides like macaroni pie, rice, coleslaw, sweet patio and peas. There are vendors selling the food and people liming and dancing too.

Island Safari Tour

Island Safari Tour is a smart way to explore the paradisiacal island. You are picked from your respective hotel and taken on a ride that features the northernmost parish on the St. Lucy Island, as well as a famous East Coast beach “Bathsheba.”

After this, you will be taken off-road via forests and I am sure that you will be charmed by the beauty so much that you will make frequent pit stops to get out, click pictures and rehydrate with rum punch.

What truly make the tour interesting are the tour guides, who share their island knowledge and wisdom while keeping you grinning all the time. Strongly recommended!

St. Lawrence Gap

The place is a 1.3km long strip situated on the South Coast of the Island, where you can go to enjoy nightlife of Barbados. During the daytime, it is a great place to eat, but during nights you will find locals and visitors’ alike, drinking rum and living it up at sizzling places like CafĂ© Sol, McBrides, the Reggae Lounge and Sweet Potatoes.

Bridgetown

When on a holiday in Barbados, do visit the capital city “Bridgetown”! The Parliament House, National Heroes Square, Chamberlain Bridge, Nelson’s Statue and Kensington Oval are all there.
Additionally, in the capital city is Cave Shepherd, a departmental store that offers duty-free shopping, as well as tastiest ever macaroni pie and lamb chops are available at the top floor restaurant.

Mount Gay Rum Expedition

I did not ever realized how much I loved rum, till my trip to Barbados and now I love it in every way – in cocktails, ice-creams, milkshakes or cakes. Man, now I love rum. During the Mount Gay Rum trip, you learn about the history of rum in island Barbados, and the trip terminates with a tasting session as well.

Catamaran Cruises

I lack words to express how incredibly spectacular Barbados Catamaran cruises can be. Companies like Calabaza, Cool Runnings and Jammin’ regularly organize trips up the West Coast of island and back.

These 5-hour voyages include breakfast snacks, a gourmet lunch buffet and rum punch as your heart yearns for.  Just picture it: opulent scenery, infinite drinks, tastiest food, sunshine and the sea, chance to snorkel with beautiful turtles and light music. It is simply beautiful.

Crop Over

It is truly one thing that one must experience when on a holiday in Barbados. It is Barbados’ annual carnival and pompous celebrations take place throughout the month of July and ends in August. It is an impeccable experience.

Barbados Museum
The geek in you, will love this place. In this amazingly built museum, you can gorge on the history of Barbados the whole day. It has everything from 18th century plantation house, the Amerindians and the British rule to independence. Built in a former British Military Jail, this museum is both an educational and visually appealing place to check out.

Limegrove Mall

Shopping in Bridgetown is identical to shopping on the local high street and shopping at Limegroove Mall is identical to shopping in Mayfair. This is certainly a mall for people with ample cash to splash. It is a new and contemporary mall with dozens of high-end hopping outlets like Jaegar, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Armani, Gucci, Bulgari, Theo Fennell, Gucci and more.
